The Senegal international has struggled since his move to England and had been earmarked for a season away from Liverpool.
However, the player is adamant that he can play his way into the thoughts of Rafa Benitez before the new season commences.
''I don't want to leave and I don't intend going anywhere unless the manager tells me he doesn't have a role for me,'' Diao told the club's official website.
''I have seen all the rumours about me supposedly going to Portsmouth, St Etienne and Espanyol but I've heard nothing from any of those clubs.
''I want to show him I deserve to stay here. I want to play for Liverpool and I'm not interested in moving anywhere else.''
Meanwhile, wide man Harry Kewell has revealed the arrival of Benitez has given everyone at the club a major lift.
The Australia international had a disappointing debut campaign last season but is confident the former Valencia coach is slowly turning things around at Anfield.
''The manager has brought new ideas with him and pre-season has been tough so far,'' admitted Kewell.
''It's very exciting to be working with a manager who has the track record he has.
''What he did at Valencia was massive and hopefully he can bring that kind of success here.
''There is definitely a buzz around the place. It's still very early days but so far I'm really enjoying it.
''I've said before that I wasn't happy with my form towards the end of last season. I always want to do better.''
