Liverpool's Djimi Traore will not play for Mali this weekend.Mali have failed in their attempt to register Liverpool's Djimi Traore in time for this weekend's World Cup qualifier.
The French-born defender has applied to Fifa to play for the African country, but his application has not yet been studied.
Fifa revealed on Friday that the Mali Football Federation's case was still being looked over and that Traore could not play on Sunday.
The 24-year-old was hoping to fly to Bamako to train with his new international team-mates ahead of their qualifier against Senegal, but he must now wait before making his international debut.
Traore played for France at junior level but can play for Mali under new Fifa rules, as both of his parents hail from the African nation.
Tottenham striker Fredi Kanoute was one of the first players to take advantage of the new ruling when he represented Mali, and Traore will follow suit as soon as Fifa have ratified his application.
Mali hope that Traore will soon be able to represent them in Group One of the African zone of the World Cup qualifiers.
