Rafael Benitez has promising words for his on-loan defensive midfielder Alou Diarra.Rafael Benitez has promising words for his defensive midfielder Alou Diarra.
Diarra was signed on a free transfer from Bayern Munich two years ago but has never played a senior game at Liverpool.
He was loaned to Le Havre last season and returned to his native country this summer on loan to Lens.
The Liverpool boss has confessed that he is unlikely to cut the loan spell short in January despite Diarra's current form.
"We are watching all the players we have out on loan and checking the level they're playing," Benitez told the Liverpool Echo.
"After that, we can decide on what we will do in the future. Alou Diarra was here in the summer but we thought that at this moment we have enough players who can play in his position."
The Liverpool manager is content assessing Diarra's development from afar, giving him the opportunity to play regularly.
The 23-year-old was a shock inclusion in France's squad for the recent World Cup qualifiers, making substitute appearances in both matches.
His success as Patrick Vieira's understudy has taken many by surprise and is becoming an asset for Benitez to boast about.
"I think it's still early days for him, but it's good news for us to see a young player doing so well.
"If he continues to play well for his club and is in the national team, we will be reminding everyone he is our player."
