Alan Curbishley believes that Danny Murphy can earn himself an England recall.Charlton boss Alan Curbishley believes that Danny Murphy can earn himself an England recall - if he continues the improvement he has shown since his patchy start to life at The Valley.
Murphy joined The Addicks in the summer but found himself on the receiving end of criticism for his early season form.
The former Liverpool man has shown glimpses of his ability in recent matches, however, and Curbishley thinks the midfielder is wrong to pour scorn on his England chances.
"For Danny to think he may be out of the picture - I don't know if I agree with that," said Curbishley.
"Sven Goran Eriksson comes to a lot of our games. He came to the Arsenal one and probably would have agreed with Danny.
"But he came to the Newcastle game and maybe thought differently.
"If our players perform, as Chris Powell showed, they will get in there.
"We signed Danny three days before the season started and his fitness levels since then increased dramatically.
"He looks a lot fitter and a lot sharper.
"He took a bit of criticism, because if you are brought in for big money, then you take the flak.
"He accepted that because that is what happens."
Murphy faces old employers Liverpool at the weekend, and he admits that he was disappointed to be told he was surplus to requirements.
"I think I'll get a pretty good reception there because the fans have always been alright with me," Murphy told the South London Press.
"I was disappointed to find I wasn't part of the plans there, but the manager was up front about it."
