Harry Kewell made a successful return to action in Liverpool's reserves.Liverpool ace Harry Kewell has handed Rafa Benitez a welcome boost by making a successful return to action in the reserves.
Kewell, who has been out of action since December, played an hour of Monday's 1-1 draw with Newcastle.
The Australian international played as a central striker as he looks to prove his fitness.
Spanish defender Josemi also made his return to action in the game after a similar period out with a knee injury.
Josemi played the first half of the contest at Racecourse Ground.
Both players will be hoping to be back in the first team squad for next week's UEFA Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen.
Kewell's return is timely as Liverpool are short of attacking numbers for the tie with Leverkusen as Fernando Morientes is cup-tied, Florent Sinama Pongolle is out for the rest of the season and Neill Mellor is struggling with a knee problem.
