Joseph Yobo has warned Liverpool that they must win Sunday's derby.Everton defender Joseph Yobo has warned Liverpool that defeat in Sunday's derby will end their pursuit of fourth place.
The Toffees have not finished higher than their Merseyside rivals since 1987 but this season could finally put an end to that statistic.
David Moyes' battling outfit are currently positioned in the final UEFA Champions League place and a win at the weekend would put them ten points clear of their neighbours.
Nigerian stopper Yobo believes that should Liverpool fail to record maximum spoils, Goodison Park will almost certainly be hosting Champions League football next season.
''If they lose to us or drop points then it will be tough for them to get into the Champions League,'' confirmed Yobo.
''There is a lot at stake this time - they are behind us and chasing us.
''They want to go above us to get the Champions League spot while we want to stay there.
''There is a lot at stake but we know the situation - it's not just a local derby, the three points are very important.
''It is a big game, it's always a big game against Liverpool.
''But we are getting towards the end of the season, there are nine games to go now, and it is very important to us that we win as it is for the fans.
''We are all looking forward to the game.''
