Zenden's contract at Middlesbrough expired and the Dutchman turned down the chance to remain at The Riverside in favour of joining Liverpool.
The former Chelsea man says that he jumped at the chance to join the European champions as soon as Rafa Benitez made his move.
"As soon as the newly-crowned European champions knocked on the door you can imagine the decision was easy to make," said Zenden as he was unveiled as a Liverpool player.
"Of course it's a big factor but more importantly so is the history of the club and where the club stands and what they have done over the years.
"They have always been challenging to win trophies and the ambition from the club, the manager and me is a thing that clicks so that's why I think I am in the right place.
"Of course Rafa is a big factor. You want to work with your boss and he makes the decisions. Everyone in Spain has spoken very positively about him. He's done well with Valencia as well and even now in Valencia they are trying to copy the Benitez method so it says a lot about Rafa Benitez.
"It will never be easy to get into the team because it's a fantastic team with fantastic players.
"Midfield is definitely a place with quality players but then again I don't come here just to fill in the gaps.
"Obviously I will do everything I can to gain my place either in the middle of park or left hand side."
With Steven Gerrard's future the talk of Merseyside, Benitez was glad to comment on a positive note about Zenden's arrival.
"We decided to sign Bolo as we think he is good enough for us," said Benitez.
"He can play in different positions and has experience. He knows The Premiership and I think he will be a good player for the team and for the squad.
"I know him from Barcelona and the Dutch national team and he has experience in Europe and The Premiership so it's good.
"We know that we want to win more games in the Premier League. We want to win more games and maybe fight for The Premiership."
Benitez also revealed that Zenden was just one of four new arrivals at Anfield, with Spanish keeper Jose Reina coming in from Villarreal.
Chilean winger Mark Gonzalez will also join the squad from Albacete, along with Sevilla's young defender Antonio Barragan.
