The forward has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since the start of August, having limped out of a UEFA Champions League qualifier with Kaunas.
Having proved his fitness to the club's medical team, he was allowed a run out for the reserves on Tuesday evening.
Crouch came on as a second half substitute in the 1-0 win over West Brom, playing the final 25 minutes of the contest.
The only goal of the game went to new signing Antonio Baragan, with the Spanish defender showing good predatory instincts to net from close range.
Ramon Calliste and Besian Idrizaj signed for The Reds on Tuesday and they also featured against The Baggies.
