Lyon have boosted their attack with the signing of Cruzeiro striker Fred.
Lyon have boosted their attack with the signing of striker Fred from Brazilian club Cruzeiro.
The 21-year-old - formal name Frederico Chaves Guedes - has agreed a five-year contract with the French champions after he joined the Stade Gerland side in a deal worth é¼15 million (£10.2 million).
Several Ligue 1 clubs were interested in the South American goalscorer, with Marseille, Monaco, Nantes and Sochaux all admirers of the striker.
Fred comes to Gerard Houllier's side with a fine pedigree, having struck 40 goals in 43 matches for his previous club.
The arrival of Fred has prompted more speculation regarding some of Lyon's other strikers.
English Premiership side Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be interested in Sidney Govou, while former Arsenal hit-man Sylvain Wiltord has been linked with a return to England - with Spurs and Liverpool being mooted as his suitors.
Ligue 1 rivals Lens, meanwhile, are thought to be keen on Lyon's Pierre-Alain Frau but Houllier is not interested in letting him leave the club.
