Marseille are not giving up in their pursuit of Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse.Marseille are not giving up in their pursuit of Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse.
The French side have made signing a new striker in the transfer window their top priority and Cisse has been their main target.
Marseille have openly declared their interest in the former Auxerre man as they hope to lure him back to France.
Cisse's future at Liverpool has been the subject of intense speculation for some time with reports suggesting he does not see eye to eye with Reds boss Rafa Benitez.
The Frenchman revealed just last week that he was happy at Liverpool and had no plans to quit Anfield.
Despite Cisse's declarations Marseille are refusing to conceded defeat in their attempts to sign the forward.
"Of course I have read and heard what was said about it and I believe Djibril has clearly given his opinion on that but we have not abandoned our hopes," Marseille sporting director Jose Anigo told L'Equipe.
"I am not disappointed by what he said, he was clear enough but he is still in our minds.
"We have not discussed anything directly with him and his position does not bother me. But in football what you say one day might not be the truth any more the next."
Anigo also revealed that the club had held talks with Barcelona over a possible deal for Maxi Lopez.
Barca are willing to loan out Lopez as he is well down the pecking order at Camp Nou and he could make the move to Stade Velodrome.
"OM chairman Pape Diouf has met (Joan) Laporta several times," added Anigo.
"The trail could be reactivated when the player will be back from holidays. But we could also sign someone that has never been named."
