Sources at the Primera outfit have told skysports.com that the two clubs are on the verge of agreeing a deal that would see the 28-year-old move to The Reebok Stadium before the close of the January transfer window.
"The exit of Cesar for Bolton is very near," indicated a Deportivo spokesperson.
The player has just six months left on his contract and has found himself frozen out at the Riazor this term.
A move to England now appears on the cards, especially with the Galicians denying interest in the player from Italian outfit Lazio.
"We have received no official offers for the player from Italy," stated Depor president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro.
Bolton chairman Phil Gartside played down their interest in the central defender earlier in the month, but look close to winning the race for his services.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez had also expressed an interest in the Spanish international who will not cost a major fee because of his expiring contract.
The player himself declined to comment on his situation until negotiations over his future have been completed.
