Victor insists his Liverpool move did not collapse due to his Depor pay-off.Deportivo La Coruna forward Victor has insisted that his move to Liverpool did not collapse because of the size of the pay-off he claimed from the Spanish side.
Victor has previously claimed that Depor's failure to stump up the cash for his pay-off was the major reason behind him not moving to Anfield.
A deal between the Spanish side and Rafa Benitez's Liverpool was agreed, but in the end he did not join the European champions.
Victor has now insisted that it was not the issue of the pay-off that ended the move to Merseyside.
"I do not know what problems occurred in the negotiations between the two clubs, but I know it was not a problem of my pay-off," said Victor.
"Deportivo defended their interests and were wanting Liverpool to pay all those things. It was not something that I went looking for.
"Deportivo put the proposal to me when the clubs had reached a basic agreement and I was not against playing for the current champion of Europe.
"I never became involved in discussions about who would pay my pay-off, but if I had any problems it was that I didn't know who I was supposed to go to.
"That was the major sticking point between the two clubs.
"In the end nothing came of it, but not because of the pay-off, which was a small detail."
Victor is keen to insist that he is happy to stay at La Riazor with Depor, and had not had his heart set on joining The Reds.
"Now there are no problems. I am playing and enjoying playing here now.
"I am not disappointed, because nothing materialised, I did not start thinking about it too much.
"I want to make it clear that I am pleased to stay, because there have been some bad things claimed about me wanting to leave Depor and harm the club and that is completely false.
"People think that there is still a chance I could join Liverpool in the summer, but we shall have to see. I just do not know."
