Benfica midfielder Beto has apologised to Liverpool's Mohamed Sissoko.
Benfica midfielder Beto has apologised to Liverpool's Mohamed Sissoko and hopes he can start to win over the Estadio da Luz public.
The Brazilian accidentally kicked the Mali international in the face during Benfica's 1-0 win in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Liverpool ace was forced off the field with the injury and could face a spell on the sidelines.
"My boot caught Sissoko in the face and it opened a big wound around the eye," said Beto.
"I want to apologise. I did not mean to injure him.
"It was just a typical 50-50 midfield situation that happens all the time.
"You have to contest everything and I hope he recovers quickly."
Beto is upset with the lack of support, at times, from the Benfica supporters as he has been targeted by the boo-boys this term.
"I have felt like an ugly duckling since the start of the season," he complained.
"They don't think I'm an important player, but I do what the coach tells me and I always pressure my opponents.
"They are able to whistle me for 90 minutes and I am not going to lose my cool.
"It goes in one ear and out the other," he told A Bola.
"I am certain the coach [Ronald Koeman] and the Benfica directors are satisfied with me and that is important.
"I have become accustomed to hearing these whistles."
