Reports suggest that Jermaine Pennant is closing in on a move to Liverpool.
Reports suggest that Birmingham City winger Jermaine Pennant is closing in on a move to Liverpool.
The Reds have been tracking the former Arsenal man for some time and Steve Bruce revealed on Tuesday that the relegated side had rejected a bid of £3.5 million.
However it now seems as though Rafa Benitez is close to resolving his lengthy search for a right sided midfielder after tabling a bid in the region of £6.25 million.
Blues had been holding out for more due to a clause in the star's contract which guarantees Arsenal 25 percent of any sell-on fee, but with Pennant on his way to Liverpool to continue talks it appears their resolve has broken.
Despite Birmingham's relegation from The Premiership last season Pennant still managed to impress at St Andrews with his trickery and deadly crossing, and his signing would further reinforce a Liverpool squad already boosted by the arrivals of Craig Bellamy, Gabriel Paletta, Fabio Aurelio and Mark Gonzalez.
The 23-year-old originally moved to Blues on loan in January 2005, before completing a permanent deal worth £3 million in July of the same year.
