Rafa Benitez remains hopeful that striker Dirk Kuyt could play some part at the weekend
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez remains hopeful that striker Dirk Kuyt could play some part at the weekend against Blackburn.
The Holland international picked up an ankle injury whilst on international on Saturday but the diagnosis is looking relatively positive ahead of the clash at Anfield.
Having returned to Liverpool's Melwood training ground, Kuyt has responded well to treatment and Benitez has been encouraged by what he has seen.
The intelligent front man has impressed thus far in his fledgling partnership with fellow new boy Craig Bellamy and his Spanish taskmaster is hopeful it could continue to bear fruit at the weekend.
"Dirk's injury isn't that bad," Benitez told the club's official website.
"We can't say when he will be able to play, but he returned on Tuesday and had more treatment.
"It would have been better if we'd been able to treat him for another two days straight after his injury, but we will wait and see how he is before deciding when he can play."
Also receiving treatment in the Anfield treatment room is midfield powerhouse Mohamed Sissoko, another casuality of international duty.
"We also have a problem with Momo, who has hurt his ankle," he added
"He's not been able to train since he came back."
