Marseille are on the brink of signing former Liverpool midfielder Boudewijn Zenden.Marseille are on the brink of signing former Liverpool midfielder Boudewijn Zenden.
Zenden left Liverpool at the end of last season after seeing out his contract at Anfield.
The former Chelsea and Middlesbrough ace is currently in France discussing terms over a move to Stade Velodrome.
The Dutch international has passed a medical and he has been offered a two-year deal at the French giants.
Zenden will help fill the void at Marseille left by the departure of Franck Ribery to Bayern Munich.
A statement on the club's official website read: "Boudewijn Zenden is at Marseille. "He is currently taking medical exams as a pre-condition to him signing, and should then sign for two years at OM, before being presented to the press."
The 30-year-old could link up with former Liverpool team-mate Djibril Cisse at Marseille with the French striker still in talks over a permanent move to L'OM.
Marseille are keen to sign Cisse on a permanent basis after he spent the whole of last season on loan at the club.
However, talks have dragged on and Marseille sporting director Jose Anigo says the club will not put themselves at risk to land the former Auxerre man.
"That is part of the game, but we will make it," Anigo told France Football.
"We remain very confident.
"However, we are forced to imagine a failure, because we won't put the club in danger for Djibril to join us."
