Javier Mascherano says the key to Liverpool's fine start to the term has been their fighting spirit.

Liverpool duo delighted with fine start

Javier Mascherano and Fabio Aurelio believe the key to Liverpool's fine start to the season has been their fighting spirit. The Reds have come from behind to win four times already this term and remain level on points with Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Manchester City on Sunday. Mascherano insists that Liverpool were always confident of hitting back against City despite trailing 2-0 at half-time. And the Argentine midfielder feels the never-say-die attitude of the players bodes well for a successful campaign. "It is good to win games when you have been losing because it shows that you have a good spirit and a togetherness," Mascherano told the Liverpool Echo. "We always believe that we can win games no matter what the situation is because you have to have such belief when you are at a club like Liverpool. "On Sunday we had a feeling that if we got one goal we would be back in the game and that is exactly what happened, so we are all very happy. "Now we have to look towards the next game and try to win that one also because we have confidence and we are playing well."

Aurelio joy

Aurelio believes Liverpool have the quality to turn any match around and has echoed his team-mate's sentiments. He said: "We knew we were not out of the game against City. "They were 2-0 up but when there's 45 minutes left we know we can change a situation like that. "We came back out with confidence, trying harder to win the second balls because we weren't getting close enough in the first half. We wanted to press harder and get nearer their box. "We knew they had quality players but because they are so good going forward, we knew they were weaker at the back. "I think the key was the spirit in the camp. We believe in ourselves because we look around the dressing room and see quality players."
