Southampton have ruled out selling £10million-rated teenager Alex Chamberlain in January.

St Mary's boss keen on keeping talented teenager

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins has ruled out selling £10million-rated teenager Alex Chamberlain in the January transfer window. The 17-year-old winger has caught the eye of a host of Premier League clubs in his first full season in League One. The likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Stoke are all reported to be admirers of Chamberlain, but it understood that Liverpool are the biggest fans of the midfielder's talents. The son of former England international Mark Chamberlain could attract more attention this weekend when Southampton play Blackpool in the FA Cup, but Adkins has warned off any potential suitors.

Nurture

The Saints boss said in The Daily Star: "We don't need to sell Alex, and he hasn't said he wants to go. "He came through our academy and we want to nurture and develop our players, not sell them. "Alex is a terrific lad and an important part of our squad. If we had any indication that all of this was going to his head, we have people here to kick him up the backside. "We speak regularly to his parents and they are happy with his progression here."
