Stekelenburg a Roma target

Italian eyes on Ajax keeper

Maarten Stekelenburg is a target for Roma, but he is not the only goalkeeping option they are exploring. It is understood that the Ajax shot-stopper is, however, top of the Serie A club's wish list as they attempt to bring in a new No.1. Roma already have four goalkeepers on their books, but that number is expected to be reduced this summer. Brazilian keeper Alexander Doni is closing on a move to Liverpool, while any of Julio Sergio, Gianluca Curci and Bogdan Lobont could still be offloaded.

Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has confirmed that there will be a reshuffle in the keeping ranks at Stadio Olimpico, and has revealed that Stekelenburg is a possible transfer target. "Stekelenburg is one of three or four goalkeepers that we are following," he said. Sabatini has also announced that Doni's proposed move to Anfield should be completed in the next few days. He added: "There is a chance that the negotiations with Liverpool will be concluded positively."
