Arsene Wenger says rising transfer fees will prevent Premier League clubs using increased television revenue to cut ticket prices.
Clubs are coming under increasing pressure to pass on the money from the new broadcasting deal to supporters, who recently joined forces to campaign for a cap on the price of away tickets.
That initiative is destined to fail, according to Sky sources, who say the move does not have the required backing of 14 Premier League clubs.
In the meantime Liverpool fans are planning a mass walkout at Anfield this weekend over next season's price increase, while Arsenal season-ticket holders have reacted angrily to demands for a surcharge on their seats for the upcoming Champions League game against Barcelona.
Arsenal say the extra charge - of up to £30 - is in line with the terms and conditions of their season-ticket sales, but that has not prevented a backlash, with the Arsenal Supporters' Trust branding the club "greedy".
Wenger contributed to the ongoing debate at his weekly press conference, saying: "What will happen is the prices of the players will go up and you will need this supplement of money coming in to buy new players.
"I believe that the pressure on spending the money will become bigger and you cannot necessarily distribute the money to other people.
"What we do, we stabilise our prices...and we have stabilised now for many years."
Arsenal have announced a seventh price freeze in 11 years for next season, but their most expensive tickets still cost more than those at any other Premier League club.
Wenger has bought just two senior players in the past two transfer windows, signing goalkeeper Petr Cech from Chelsea in the summer and bringing in midfielder Mohamed Elneny from Basel last month.
