Ray Parlour thinks N'Golo Kante would be a great signing for Arsenal and would make their midfield formidable.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hailed the Leicester City and France midfielder as "incredible" and a "unique player" as speculation grows about the player's future at the Premier League champions.

Kante was a revelation in his debut season in the Premier League and Arsenal have already held talks with another Leicester star, Jamie Vardy, after triggering his £20m release clause.

Former Arsenal and England midfielder Parlour would love to see the Leicester midfielder at The Emirates, purring at the thought of the Gunners midfield with the Frenchman at the base.

"I'm sure there's a lot of clubs looking at Kante - he's been superb for Leicester City," Parlour told Sky Sports.

"He's like two men in midfield with his work rate and the way he sets play up. You need that platform from midfield - he would be a great signing for Arsenal if they could get him.

"If he was in the Arsenal side, playing behind Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez, then Arsenal would have a formidable midfield. I'm sure if he's available then Arsene Wenger will definitely be interested in a player of his quality."

Wenger's contract expires at the end of next season and he has moved early in this year's transfer market by bringing in Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach for a fee in the region of £30m.

Parlour, who won three Premier League titles during a 14-year spell with the club, says Wenger must now secure further top additions in the summer in order to keep up with the likes of Manchester City next season, in what he believes will be an "amazing" season.

"Arsenal definitely need players to bring into the club," he said.

"It's not rocket science about where they need strengthening. A striker, a centre-half and they've lost Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky, so other players need to come into the squad.

"There are players out there - he's brought one in so far and I expect another three or four. It's a long, hard season so the squad is very important.

"It's so competitive for players though. Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, Antonio Conte and Jurgen Klopp will all be looking in the same market."
