Burnley's Matthew Lowton says Aaron Ramsey deliberately exaggerated his fall for the penalty that handed Arsenal a last minute win over the Clarets

Matthew Lowton has accused Aaron Ramsey of deliberately exaggerating his fall to win the last-minute penalty that clinched Arsenal’s 1-0 win against Burnley on Sunday.

Ramsey was judged to have been fouled by James Tarkowski in the 92nd minute at Turf Moor and Alexis Sanchez successfully dispatched the spot-kick to seal the three points for Arsenal.

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher told Sky Sports News on Monday that the decision was correct, but Lowton says the Arsenal midfielder made the most of the collision.

"I turned round and I've seen Ramsey exaggerate the fall with his hands in the air and it just really annoyed me the way that he'd, maybe not conned the ref but tried to make it a bit more obvious," said Lowton.

"He's done what he needed to do and got a penalty for his team.

"In the heat of the moment I was a bit annoyed but have to move on."

The Burnley defender reacted angrily to the decision during the game, but admits that he can understand why the referee awarded the penalty.

"I still think it's soft but he [James Tarkowski] has made contact with Ramsey and not got the ball so I can see where the referee is coming from.

"We know how difficult it is for them, it's just sickening for us so deep in the game but we'll take it on the chin and move on.

"It's just one of those things. The last three times we've played [Arsenal] they've scored controversial last-minute goals but we can't keep playing on that.

"It would be nice if over the course of the season we get a decision like that which helps us win a game.
