Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino praised his team after they beat Arsenal 1-0 in the north London derby.

Mauricio Pochettino described Harry Kane as Tottenham's "present and future" after he again proved the scourge of Arsenal with the winner in the north London derby.

Kane soared above Laurent Koscielny to head home his 32nd goal of the season four minutes into the second half to move Pochettino's men above Liverpool and Chelsea into third in the Premier League fight for Champions League places.

Pochettino appeared to fire a message to potential suitors after the 1-0 victory at Wembley when he said: "He is the present and the future.

"It is amazing all that he is achieving, [I'm] so proud and happy he is in our side."

The win meant Tottenham have now taken seven points from their last three Premier League games - a run which saw them play Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Pochettino believes taking positive results from a string of such high-profile matches can only be good for his players' confidence as they look to secure a top-four finish of their own.

"I think it is important for the belief of the team," the Spurs boss said.

"You know very well that football is about trust, confidence and belief. I think a clean sheet against United, clean sheet against Arsenal and I think we deserved more against Liverpool but only took a draw.

"The performance of the team is fantastic, I'm so pleased because that was a key period where you need to fight for the top four and with these three points we are in the battle and arriving in the Champions League is a competition that excites the fans, excites us and you dream of playing in those games."

Kane's goal was his seventh in seven league games against the club who rejected him as a youngster.

"I look forward to these games. It was a great performance by the team and thankfully I was there to put one away," Kane added.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says a top four finish will be much tougher after losing 1-0 to Tottenham.

"That's what we needed. We had tough fixtures: United, Liverpool and Arsenal all in a row and seven points from those games is fantastic.

"We've got to build on it, another big game in the Champions League now and keep the momentum going."
