The Spanish champions played the last twenty minutes of the match with ten men after Angulo's premature departure, but still held out for a goalless draw.
Benitez was less than impressed with the red card - awarded after Angulo clashed with Pascal Cygan - and claims the official took the easy way out.
"I didn't see the incident and the referee didn't either," stormed the Che boss.
"I don't think he saw it, but it was an easy decision for him to take. Maybe we can watch a slow motion replay and then come to an agreement."
Benitez was upbeat about his side's performance, and the valuable point the club will take back to Valencia.
It was a difficult game, and with so many obstacles it is not easy. The team did a great job and were lucky in some respects but unlucky in others.
"We could have lost the game, but had a couple of good chances with Carew.
"The whole team were good, but Palop did make some high quality saves."
