The Gunners boss has yet to find a top-class replacement for the departed David Seaman, who left after failing to get assurances from Wenger that he would continue to be first choice custodian this term.
With Nurnberg shot-stopper Darius Kampa the latest in a long line of keepers to snub the North London club this summer, time is running out for the Frenchman to bring in a new face, as he once again switches his attention to Valencia star Santiago Canizares, as exclusively revealed by planetfootball.com.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of his side's pre-season match against Barnet at Underhill on Saturday, Wenger admits a new keeper is a priority but securing the services of Robert Pires, Patrick Vieira and Dennis Bergkamp is just as important.
"I get a few phonecalls at the moment about goalkeepers but we are trying to extend the contracts of our players as well," said Wenger.
"We're not just after a goalkeeper, we are trying to extend the deals of Vieira, Pires and Bergkamp.
"But we are not in the market for anyone else other than that."
With Rami Shaaban still not fully recovered from a broken leg, Stuart Taylor is the only recognised goalkeeper on the club's books and Wenger admits he needs a new keeper to add to the Highbury numbers and to bring vital experience to his goalkeeping department.
"I have confidence in Stuart but numbers wise we need more experience and we're not sure if he can go through the whole season as first choice, so we need to bring someone experienced into the squad," he added.
