The agent of Barcelona prospect, and rumoured Arsenal target, Gerard Pique Bernabeu has remained tight-lipped over reports that the North Londoners have enquired about his client.
Arturo Canales told skysports.com that he was in talks with Barca over a new contract for Pique Bernabeu, but added that he would not be surprised if The Gunners were interested in the 17-year-old.
The teenager, who plays as a central defender, is a Spanish Under-17 international, and is widely regarded as one of the brightest defensive prospects in Spain.
Although yet to break into the first-team picture at Camp Nou, the Catalans are already preparing to offer the youngster a new deal to try and ward off possible interest in him.
"All I can say is that we are currently in negotiations with Barcelona about a new contract," Canales told skysports.com.
"It would not surprise me if Arsenal did like the player because he is seen as an outstanding prospect in Spain."
When asked if there had been any contact between the two clubs, Canales added: "I wouldn't be sure about that."
Arsenal have already raided Barca for one outstanding youngster when they lured Francesc 'Cesc' Fabregas (pictured) to Highbury earlier in the year.
Although their interest in Pique Bernabeu has yet to be officially confirmed, it would be no surprise if Arsene Wenger had identified another European starlet that he wanted to bring to Highbury.
However, following the controversial swoop for Cesc, Barca will be determined not to lose another of their rising stars to the Premiership titans.
