Jose Antonio Reyes has admitted that Real Madrid were interested in signing him.Jose Antonio Reyes has admitted that Real Madrid were interested in signing him before his switch to Arsenal.
Speaking to Spanish radio he conceded that he was flattered by Madrid president Florentino Perez's desire to land him.
But the Gunners star insists he is happy with life at Highbury, although he refused to close the door on a possible switch to the Santiago Bernabeu one day.
"All I can say is he (Perez) didn't act in time and I am here (Arsenal) now," he told radio Marca.
"I am very happy in London, and I like playing for such a big club.
"But I am happy that the president of a club like Real Madrid thinks about me."
"In football you never know what is going to happen.
"I have another four years left on my contract and I don't know if I will renew (my contract) when it finishes.
"You have to leave all doors open."
The Spanish international also went on to defend international manager Luis Aragones in the face of criticism for his racist remarks aimed at Thierry Henry.
Reyes backed Aragones, stating he was not racist and added that Henry had himself tried to play down the incident.
"Luis is like that," he continued. "He has led many teams and knows people of all races.
"He only wanted to motivate me and his words were taken out of context.
"I know that there are racist people but he is not one.
"Henry was the first not to take it too seriously. He took it as a joke and even today he tells me that he doesn't understand why it caused such a commotion."
