Jeremie Aliadiere says Europe was a key factor behind his decision to join Celtic.Jeremie Aliadiere has admitted that playing in the UEFA Champions League was a key factor behind his decision to move to Celtic.
The gifted French striker is expected to seal a season-long loan from Arsenal this week, after Gunners chief Arsene Wenger gave the green light for his compatriot to head out of Highbury in a bid to increase his first-team experience.
Aliadiere is determined to forge a career at Arsenal and clearly feels a season of Champions League football with The Bhoys could boost his chances of catching Wenger's eye.
"The Champions League was a big factor in choosing Celtic," Aliadiere, who has battled back to fitness from a serious knee injury, told the Scottish Daily Express.
"Everybody knows the Champions League is the competition everybody wants to play in and it would be good if I could help Celtic make an impact in the competition.
"It would also be great if we ended up playing Arsenal. That would be something special.
"If that was the case, then I'm hoping Arsene Wenger would let me play for Celtic. But I'm sure he would."
Aliadiere claims all that stands between him and a move to Parkhead is a deal being thrashed out by both clubs.
"I have already found an agreement with Celtic," he told L'Equipe. "Now it is up to the clubs to find an agreement.
"I already know Arsene Wenger agreed. I talked with him and he believes it is a good idea.
"It will allow me to play more often and being in the starting XI.
"I am really attracted by Celtic. Gordon Strachan knows me well, I know he has followed me for some time."
