Fernando Torres's agent has denied having any contact from Arsenal over the past 18 months.
Arsene Wenger is believed to be a huge fan of the Atletico Madrid forward and speculation is mounting that the North Londoners will launch a major bid to sign 'El Nino' in 2006.
With money to spend despite next year's move to a new stadium at Ashburton Grove, The Gunners have targeted Torres as an ideal foil for Thierry Henry and compatriot Jose Antonio Reyes.
Gunners scout Steve Rowley was reportedly at Sevilla last weekend to see Torres play in a goalless draw.
However, Jose Antonio Martin insists he has not been in touch with Wenger or vice-chairman David Dein for some time.
"The last time I spoke with Arsenal was a year and a half ago," he told Marca. "As of today, there has been no contact."
The clause in Torres's contract allows him to leave for a whopping é¼90 million (£60 million) and there seems little prospect of Atletico wanting to sell their classy striker for the moment.
Reyes, meanwhile, still feels Thierry Henry is a better player than Torres as the Spanish duo look forward to the World Cup play-offs with Slovakia.
"Who is better?" he commented. "Right now, Henry is superior - he is the best forward in Europe.
"He is 28 years old and El Nino is only 21, but already a great player with time to progress."
