Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is looking to strengthen his side in January.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is looking to strengthen his side during the January transfer window.
However, the Frenchman did not want to reveal exactly who he is chasing.
The Gunners are reportedly interested in St Etienne midfielder Didier Zokora but have been linked with a host of players across Europe as they look for success in the Premiership and UEFA Champions League.
"I am trying. If we find one it is good. Maybe one who can cover in midfield or even a defender," he told Arsenal's official website.
"I would prefer a permanent [signing], a loan is always tricky.
"Experienced, yes, but then when I brought Patrick Vieira here he was not experienced. If he is talented that is all we need.
"Usually we don't buy players in January. It is difficult to get the right ones in.
"They are cup-tied in the Champions League or they are good players so no one wants to lose them because their clubs are playing for something."
One of the reasons Wenger will be looking to bring in new faces is because of the imminent departure of Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue to the African Nations Cup.
However, the Arsenal manager is hoping he can delay their departure so that he has the possibility of including them in the squad for the match against Middlesbrough on January 14.
"They are due to go on January 6. I hope they will leave on the 15th.
"I think everybody will be allowed [to go later]. They don't need to work on fitness. The African countries have two stages of preparation.
"One for the players who play in their country and another to get players to regroup before the African Nations Cup starts.
"It starts on January 20 but Ivory Coast don't play until the 22nd. If they get them on the 15th, then that gives them a week."
