Falkirk boss eyes Howard stay

On-loan goalkeeper Mark Howard is set for a permanent deal at Falkirk.

Falkirk manager John Hughes is ready to offer on-loan goalkeeper Mark Howard a permanent deal at the SPL strugglers.

Howard has been told he will not be offered a new contract by Arsenal and Hughes says he would be interested in keeping the 19-year-old in Scotland.

"Mark's a good lad to work with. When any player comes to the club I look at them closely to see how they conduct themselves and he's done well," Hughes told the Daily Record.

"He's waited a long time to get his place in the team and he wants to prove people wrong.

"He's with us until the end of the season and Arsenal had put a fee on his head if we wanted to make the deal permanent.

"I'll get in touch with them to see if that fee still stands but I would hope it doesn't as they've told Mark his contract won't be renewed."
