Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp will try to persuade Sol Campbell to stay in England.
Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp will try to persuade Sol Campbell to stay in The Premiership.
Campbell announced over the weekend that he is leaving Arsenal after spending five seasons with the UEFA Champions League runners-up.
He has been linked with Italian giants Internazionale, along with Turkish outfit Fenerbahce, and has hinted he wants to play abroad before his career ends.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger also declared his belief that the imposing centre half will quit The Premiership, after making 390 top-flight appearances.
But Pompey chief Redknapp is keen to add the 31-year-old to his Fratton Park squad and is likely to make an offer for Campbell.
"When a player of his quality becomes available you cannot ignore him," said Redknapp.
"He's a giant among defenders."
Another centre half rumoured to be on Redknapp's wish-list is Manchester City stopper Sylvain Distin.
