Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos says he is aiming to return to training in a month.
Arsenal's Swiss international defender Philippe Senderos says he hopes to have recovered from the injury he sustained at the World Cup and be back to training inside a month.
The promising 21-year-old saw his campaign in Germany brought to a premature end when he damaged shoulder ligaments in the Group G game with South Korea, and in a further blow missed the start of the season for The Gunners.
With Sol Campbell departing over the summer and, as yet, Arsene Wenger neglecting to enter the transfer market for a new defender, the onus is likely to be on Senderos to partner Kolo Toure in the Arsenal back-line in the coming months.
Young compatriot Johan Djourou has been filling in with some success, but Senderos says he will be back fighting for his place sooner rather than later.
"I am about four weeks away from coming back and training with the team," Senderos told the club's official website.
"Then it will be a few weeks before I can fight for my place again."
Senderos formed a key part of the Gunners back-line that set a new UEFA Champions League record for consecutive clean sheets last season.
