Jose Antonio Reyes admits he is aiming to win a permanent stay at Real Madrid in the season he will spend with the Spanish giants.The Spain international failed to ever really settle in London with Arsenal and was more than content to make the move back to his homeland prior to the closure of the transfer window, in a deal that saw Julio Baptista head in the opposite direction.
Reyes has only really hinted at an obvious talent during his sojourn in The Premiership since joining the club from Sevilla, but back now in Spain he is aiming to make up for lost time.
The future of the 23-year-old is far from certain, though, and eager to make a favourable impression at The Bernabeu, Reyes concedes he holds hope for a permanent switch.
"I've got a year to prove to the club, the president and the boss that I'm worth a place here," said Reyes.
"Maybe it will depend on how the club does this season, but I'll be doing my best. Obviously I don't know if I'll have return (to Arsenal) next year, but if I think about that I'll be starting off on the wrong foot.
"If I have to compete for a place with Raul I will. I don't mind where I play. I've also played on the right side at Arsenal too.
"All I want to do is to convince the coach that I'm worth a place in the side."
Reyes admits that last season proved difficult for him as his family were not settled and neither was his place in Arsenal's first team, going on to concede that missing out on the UEFA Champions League final was an important factor in his decision to leave.
"The climate and the language were very difficult for me, and my family wasn't happy there either and they are the most important thing for me," he concluded.
"Not starting the Champions League final was a major blow to me especially as I had played in all the games along the way. I don't know if it was the final straw, but it was important."
