William Gallas is a major doubt for France's Euro 2008 qualifier against Faroe Islands.
William Gallas is a major doubt for France's Euro 2008 qualifier against Faroe Islands on Wednesday.
The defender sat out the 1-0 defeat to Scotland on Saturday with a hamstring injury, and is unlikely to be risked against the European minnows.
Gallas initially picked up the problem during Arsenal's UEFA Champions League game against Porto last month, but had appeared to recover fully.
It was decided, though, that Gallas should not risk his fitness at Hampden Park, and he will probably now get some rest and treatment before Arsenal's Premiership clash with Watford this weekend.
Meanwhile, Sebastien Frey has been called up to the France squad as cover for injured goalkeeper Gregory Coupet.
Coupet has had to withdraw from the squad with a hand injury and his place is almost certain to be taken by Mickael Landreau.
Fiorentina keeper Frey is nevertheless delighted to be part of coach Raymond Domenech's plans.
"It is a great happiness," he enthused.
"I have always thought about Les Bleus but I never talk to the press and I have always respected the coach's choices. I have been patient.
"I am happy that the call comes after a successful start to the season with my club."
