Gilberto Silva insists his current run of goalscoring form does not constitute his best season at Arsenal.
The Brazilian anchorman, who was made captain during the absence of Thierry Henry, has found the net eight times this season.
Silva's unlikely exploits have caught the headlines, but the player is adamant he remains far more than a goalscoring midfielder.
"People are saying this is my best year here, but I disagree," Silva told the Guardian.
"I've been playing consistently well for five years. The difference in the last few months is that I've been captain in the absence of Thierry, been the penalty-taker and scored many goals which isn't usual for me.
"This was the difference and this is the reason people have been talking about me.
"I'm very happy with what I've done, but it's not just down to me. It's down to the team and what we have done together. My job is to protect the defenders, but when I have a chance to score I feel proud.
"If the goals come they're welcome, but it's not what I look to do. I just want to do my best for the team."
