Baup targets three additions

Toulouse coach Elie Baup has confirmed the need to add three players to his squad.

Toulouse coach Elie Baup has confirmed the need to add three players to his squad ahead of next season.

Baup led the Stadium Municipal club into the UEFA Champions League last term and knows he must strengthen over the summer.

"I need three experienced players, a central defender, a defensive midfielder and a forward," Baup told L'Equipe.

Arsenal youngster Johan Djourou and Celta Vigo's Sebastien Tamas are both options for Toulouse in defence, with the latter the more likely addition.

"If it goes smoothly it should become clearer next week," chairman Olivier Sadran said of a possible deal for Tamas.

St Etienne striker Bafetimbi Gomis is Toulouse's top target in attack, but they have failed with an offer of over ‚é¼4million (£2.7m).

Sadran continued: "We made a very good offer to St Etienne, above ‚é¼4million. They refused and I respect the club's decision."

Lorient front man Andre-Pierre Gignac is being followed by Toulouse, but Lille are favourites to sign him.

Espanyol's Eduardo Costa, who worked with Baup at Bordeaux, is another confirmed summer target for Les Violets.

"Talks are going well, but his wages are very high," Sadran added on negotiations with the defensive midfielder.

Meanwhile, Sadran has dismissed any possibility of a selling star striker Johan Elmander, despite reported interest from a host of top European clubs.

Toulouse want to hang onto the Swedish international for their Champions League campaign and Sadran will not let him go.

He said: "No, no, he won't leave. We are asking for way above ‚é¼25million (£17m)."
