Arsenal not in for Boro stopper

Arsene Wenger has denied that Arsenal have made a move for Jonathan Woodgate. Woodgate has held talks with Newcastle and Tottenham over the past week as he looks set to quit his hometown club Middlesbrough. However, Boro chief executive Keith Lamb revealed on Monday that a third club had lodged a bid. Reports then suggested that Arsenal were the unnamed club - but Gunners chief Wenger has been quick to deny any such link.

"I do not know where that story came from," he told Arsenal's website. "There is no truth in it at all. We have never been in touch with Middlesbrough about Jonathan Woodgate." Tottenham remain on course to seal Woodgate's signature for a fee in excess of £7million.
