Croatia coach Slaven Bilic has named Arsenal striker Eduardo in his squad to face Romania despite not playing for the Gunners since February last year.
The 25-year-old has been out of action since suffering a career-threatening injury against Birmingham in the Premier League at the beginning of the year.
The Brazilian-born frontman is close to making his return for the first team after appearing for the reserves in the past few weeks.
But Bilic is prepared to take a gamble on his country's star striker for the friendly in Bucharest.
The forward's last appearance for Croatia came in the 3-2 win against England in the rain at Wembley in November 2007, a result which ensured Steve McClaren's men would not be participating at Euro 2008.
Throughout his rehabilitation Eduardo has made no secret of the fact that playing for the national team has helped him through the more difficult stages of his recovery.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will be hoping it is not a case of too much too soon for the former Dinamo Zagreb man.
Tottenham duo, defender Vedran Corluka and midfielder Luka Modric, as well as Portsmouth midfielder Niko Kranjcar, have also been called up to the squad.
