Nicklas Bendtner is hopeful he can secure a regular place in Arsenal's first-team following news of Emmanuel Adebayor's absence.
Adebayor suffered a hamstring injury in the club's 0-0 draw with rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The Togo striker is expected to be sidelined for at least three weeks, and Bendtner is keen to fill the void, although he is hopeful his team-mate will soon return.
"Of course, chances for me have improved with someone else out injured," the Dane told BT.
"But I still hope that he will be back soon, as we need him in the team.
"I still feel that when I play my best, I should start, regardless of who is fit or who is injured.
"I have the same attitude every time, and each game I try to prove that I should start."
