Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has told Sky Sports News of his admiration for Manchester United counterpart Edwin van der Sar.
Almunia is set to lock horns with Van der Sar on Wednesday night as the two English clubs contest the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final.
Dutchman Van der Sar is a vastly experienced shot-stopper and this season he entered the record books for going 1,311 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal.
Almunia has praised the 38-year-old, who has twice lifted the Premier League title at Old Trafford as well as claiming European glory last campaign.
He said: "I admire Edwin van der Sar. I was playing at school when he won some titles.
"He is still among the top goalkeepers in the world. He's still wining titles. It's unbelievable."
Almunia also reiterated his determination to improve as a keeper after making the No.1 jersey his own at Emirates Stadium.
He added: "I feel very good in goal. I have the confidence of the coach, which is very important, and the confidence and the respect of the rest of the squad.
"It is a question of consistency and working hard every single day. Of course, I am improving my game and I expect to improve even more."
