St Etienne sporting director Damien Comolli has conceded the French club could be forced to sell Blaise Matuidi this summer.
Defensive midfielder Matuidi is said to be a target of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, whose funds have been boosted by the reported £25million fee paid by Manchester City for Emmanuel Adebayor.
Former Tottenham Hotspur man Comolli is reluctant to let 22-year-old Matuidi leave Stade Geoffroy-Guichard but admitted he would have little say should a major side come in for his services.
Comolli said: "He is not for sale. We are not looking for an offer.
"However, it would be difficult to prevent him from leaving if a top 10 European side came in for him."
Meanwhile, Arsenal scout Gilles Grimandi has hinted that the Gunners are unlikely to make a second move in the transfer window until they part company with another player.
He told France Football: "We have a full squad at the moment. If a key player leaves, then we will think about making a signing."
