Gunners stopper eager to banish Carling Cup pain

Arsenal defender Johan Djourou insists Arsene Wenger's men will 'go for it' in their weekend FA Cup clash at Sunderland. England's prestigious club competition looks the club's likeliest avenue for silverware this term following their heavy UEFA Champions League defeat by AC Milan in midweek. The Gunners, who have failed to win a trophy since the 2005 FA Cup final, take on the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light a week after claiming a Premier League win at Martin O'Neill's side. Djourou insists Arsenal's harrowing Carling Cup final loss to Birmingham City last season still hurts and believes the club will be looking to ease the pain by lifting the FA Cup in May.

Opportunity

"It is [a big opportunity] for us. The FA Cup is one of the main targets and we have to go for it," he told the club's official website. "[The League Cup final defeat] is very motivating because we were very disappointed about what happened last time at Wembley and we want to put that right. "I think it is something still in our heads, and it is difficult to swallow. We know if we can get to the final we can lift the trophy."
