Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes the Football Association need to press ahead with its search for a new England manager and make an appointment as soon as possible.
The FA has previously indicated that it wants to wait until the end of the season before pursuing Fabio Capello's successor in order to avoid disrupting a club side in the season run-in.
However, that has drawn criticism from some quarters, given the uncertainty it generates and the lack of time the new man will have to prepare his side for the European Championship in June.
Wenger, who has been approached about the England job in the past, acknowledges the timing of Capello's resignation in February has put the FA in a tricky situation, but he still feels the issue should be resolved sooner rather than later.
"I don't know their plan completely, I think they have been taken by surprise a bit with Capello going," said Wenger.
"They are now in a difficult situation and the sooner they sort it out, the better it is, but it is not easy for the federation [FA] at the moment because they do not want to interfere with what is going on in the Premier League. You can understand that."
