City defender salutes in-demand Arsenal striker

Kolo Toure believes Arsenal striker Robin van Persie could help Manchester City challenge for UEFA Champions League glory. Van Persie had been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium even before Wednesday's announcement that he would not be extending his Gunners contract which has just 12 months left to run. That speculation has been ramped up with the Holland international, who scored 30 Premier League goals last season, admitting a desire to challenge for major silverware contributed to his decision. And centre-back Toure, who played alongside Van Persie before leaving North London for City in 2009, is well aware of what the striker can bring to a team.

Top player

"Robin is a top player. I've played with him, I know him and he's a great man," the centre-back is quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News. "At City we have great players and the club does what it wants in transfers. "But for me, if Robin comes it's great because I know what he can do. "You have to build your squad every year to do better; to win the Champions League is very difficult as we have seen."
