Vermaelen's future at Arsenal has been the subject of conjecture for some time after losing his starting place in Arsene Wenger's side.
Manchester United have been credited with an interest in his services for next season, while Napoli are also thought to be keen on the Belgian international.
Vermaelen, who has just over a year to run on his current deal, insists he is in the dark over his future and is staying focused on Arsenal.
"There has been a lot of speculation, but I can't talk about it because I don't know what is going on," said Vermaelen
"My focus is on Arsenal at the moment. There is still a lot to play for - I can't do anything about rumours."
The 28-year-old, who played at left-back during Tuesday's Champions League draw with Bayern Munich, has started just eight games this season due to the form of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny - and he admits he has found it difficult not be a regular starter in the Arsenal side.
"It is not easy, but I try to stay positive," added Vermaelen. "Firstly, I have been injured in the last couple of weeks, but when the boss needs me, I try to play well.
"I know anything can happen, so I am happy to play when he needs me.
"From my point of view, I hope it is as much as it can be. I work hard for the team and that is the only thing that I can do."
