Former Oldham number one Gerrard will miss the next three weeks of the season after picking up a groin strain during the clash at The Dell.
Norwegian Myhre recently expressed his desire to leave the club in a search for first-team football, but this simple twist of fate will give him a chance to prove to Toffees` boss Walter Smith that he can do the job.
However, financial factors may need to be taken into account as Myhre has made 68 appearances in The Toffees` squad. If he is included more than 80 times, then Viking Stavanger will receive a further £300,000 as part of the deal that took him to Merseyside.
Myhre was back in Moss when the call arrived from Everton to report back for training on Monday. "I don`t know anything but that I will have to go back to England," said the keeper. "I was supposed to be staying at home in Norway until the middle of the week."
"I am fit and in training," continued the man who spent some time with Rangers earlier in the season. "I reckon that I will get my chance now but I don`t know how long Gerrard will be out."
The other option open to Smith is expensive signing from Tranmere, Steve Simonsen, who replaced the 27-year-old Gerrard at the weekend.
