The Toffee`s took the lead after just four minutes, young striker Phil Jevons who was making his debut squared the ball to Mark Pembridge smashed the ball across the goal in to the bottom right hand corner.
Jevons was then involved again for the home side`s second, he was clean though on goal with only Matt Clarke to beat and when he rounded the City keeper, Clarke pulled him down and was immediately booked. David Unsworth stepped up to smash the ball home.
The home fans did not have long to wait after the break as Nicky Barmby hit the third after just five minutes of the second half. The England hopeful collected a pass before blasting the ball past Clarke.
Everton then sealed the win in the last minute when former Scotland international John Collins, who was playing at full back, hit an unstoppable 25 yard shot.
After the match Bantams boss Paul Jewell said: "We gave away a bad goal very early and it is very hard to comeback from that, we are not going to throw the towel in yet, there is still a long way to go."
