The former Tottenham and Middlesbrough ace is probably only keeping his options open, in the knowledge that his value will be greatly enhanced by some good performances in Euro 2000 for his country.
It had been claimed in the tabloids that Barmby has rejected Everton`s offer of a new deal, and they will have the tough decision of selling him after the tournament, or risk losing him for nothing in the summer of 2001, on a Bosman free transfer.
However, a spokesman for the Merseyside outfit stated: "It`s just speculation. Discussions are set to continue with Nick when he returns from Euro 2000. They started towards the end of last season."
The player`s decision to wait and ponder his options is understandable, and it is clearly premature, and incorrect at the moment, to say that the 26-year-old will definitely be on his way out of Goodison.
