Planetfootball.com revealed interest from Spurs and Liverpool in the left winger, but the Merseysiders appeared to turn their attention elsewhere when swooping for Bernard Diomede.
With David Ginola discussing a proposed £3 million move to Aston Villa, George Graham is seeking a replacement and Zenden, whose industry and defensive back-tracking will appeal to the Spurs boss, is certainly a candidate.
Pleat, the club`s director of football, responded to the talk of a bid for the Barcelona midfielder by stating: "We have had no discussions at all with this player," but it was our understanding that contact had been made with the player`s father, who acts as his adviser.
Fiorentina remain determined to bring Zenden to Italy, and other clubs are sure to add him to their list of targets, following his classy showings during the tournament.
Barca may also think twice about selling him, once their presidential elections have taken place next month.
Pleat again confirmed the well known interest in Wimbledon defender Ben Thatcher and it seems to be a certainty that he will end up at White Hart Lane this summer, although Liverpool continue to be credited with an approach for the former Millwall man.
One link that has been swiftly denied by Pleat is a rather spurious report intimating that the club would move for their former star Nick Barmby, who is set for talks on his Everton future, and has already been forwarded as a target for other Premiership clubs.
